This week there has been an important breakthrough in our research into the life and times of  John Scrope Colquitt. Tony Colquitt from Runcorn, near Liverpool, a direct descendant of the Colquitts of Liverpool has been in touch with me. He gave me an important piece of news. Henry, his father-in-law, spoke to him of a large portrait of a John Colquitt, in uniform, which was at the Customs House in Liverpool. Unfortunately, the Customs House, which was built in the early nineteenth century, was destroyed in the blitz of May 1941. It was pulled down years later and now there is a modern shopping centre on the site, Liverpool 1. However, we believe that the portrait still existed about seven or eight years ago. Tony has promised to actively help us in our search and I have contacted the Liverpool Maritime Museum to see if they can help too. This portrait demonstrates the highly important role of the Colquitts in the port of Liverpool in the 18^th century and shows that they were a prominent part of Liverpool society at that time.

Esta semana se ha producido un importante avance en nuestras investigaciones sobre la vida y época de John Scrope Colquitt. Tony Colquitt de Runcorn, cerca de Liverpool, un descendiente directo de los Colquitt de Liverpool, se ha puesto en contacto conmigo. Me dio una noticia importante. Henry, su suegro, le habló de un gran retrato de un tal John Colquitt en uniforme, que se hallaba en la Casa de la Aduana de Liverpool.
